About bay street

Bay Street in Toronto runs from Queens Quay/Toronto Harbour north to Davenport Road. Just as the name "Wall Street" is synonymous with the stock market in the United States, so is Bay Street associated with high finance in Canada.

Its name was originally Terauley Street, the change in moniker being done in the 1950s. The intersection of Bay and King streets are especially seen as the heart of Canadian banking and finance. Four major banks have offices at this intersection, the Bank of Montreal at First Canadian Place, Scotiabank at Scotia Plaza, CIBC at Commerce Court, and Toronto-Dominion Bank at the Toronto Dominion Centre. This led to the locale being called M.I.N.T. corner by locals, referencing the names of the banks (Montreal, Imperial, Nova Scotia, Toronto-Dominion).

In the 1800s, at this corner you could find The Mail Building, the Old Toronto Star Building, and the Old Globe and Mail Building, the homes of Toronto's most important newspapers.

Today the architectural and cultural attractions on Bay Street include the Toronto Coach Terminal, the spectacular historical homes of College Park, the Sutton Place Hotel, the Bistro 990 restaurant, and the Manulife Centre.
